Obama, Putin, Syria and “No Más”

The Leonard–Durán II boxing fight in 1980 gave us the classic “No Más” ending.

At least Duran had the perspicacity to realize what was happening to him. Does the White House understand what Putin is doing to them? Here is a guy mocking the US in a NYT editorial and all the WH can say is that they are glad Putin is in this bind?

That’s all irrelevant. He put this proposal forward and he’s now invested in it. That’s good. That’s the best possible reaction. He’s fully invested in Syria’s CW disarmament and that’s potentially better than a military strike – which would deter and degrade but wouldn’t get rid of all the chemical weapons. He now owns this. He has fully asserted ownership of it and he needs to deliver.

This is followed by Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov mocking Kerry as follows.

“They got off to a really bad start yesterday — partly because of the Putin op-ed and partly because Kerry in the opening remarks spoke at length — and I mean at length — compared to the unprepared few welcoming comments from the Russian counterpart,” NBC News foreign correspondent Andrea Mitchell said on “Morning Joe.”

“And then the Russian minister said at the end, very tartly, ‘Sometimes diplomacy demands silence.’”

As if that isn’t enough Kerry is dismissed as a errand boy later on.

It seems after this beating Obama is best compared to this Kiai martial arts master who actually believed his own nonsense.

All this from the WH that thinks that decisiveness is overrated.

No Más!
