Ujjal Dosanjh, lifelong Liberal, has published an important rebuke to the zeitgeist and to the truly fatuous Justin Trudeau. Citing those instances in which white politicians were silent or silenced in the presence of offences to public order or law committed by ethnic minorities in Canada, Dosanjh writes:
I had been thinking about the many such instances when I read our prime minister declaring to The New York Times Magazine, “There is no core identity, no mainstream in Canada…There are shared values — openness, respect, compassion, willingness to work hard, to be there for each other, to search for equality and justice. Those qualities are what make us the first post national state.”
There is so a core identity in Canada and I am a part of it. So are you. There is a mainstream in canada and we are all a part of it.
Young Trudeau thinks that shared values can be maintained when those who share those values, and seek to enforce them in the public square, are silenced by the policing of political correctness.
It cannot be done, As Mr. Dosanjh points out:
How do we develop shared values that the prime minister claims we have if all the streams do not at some point merge to create the mainstream?
If Mr. Trudeau was right about the absence of Canadian core identity and mainstream, we wouldn’t have any shared values.
The truth is we have a core Canadian identity; that is the reason we have the shared values that Mr. Trudeau so justly and proudly speaks of.
If we needed reminding what we lost when we lost the Conservative government, young Mr. Trudeau has reminded us. The Harper Conservatives had the surest grip of any government in my lifetime, since Diefenbaker’s, that Canada and Canadians are a real thing in the world, based in British political traditions and culture, and adapted over centuries to the existence of French Canada inside those political institutions and to the United States outside those institutions.
British North America: the Liberals have been waging ideological warfare against it for ages. It is a miracle that it holds together, yet it does.
And Justin Trudeau is a fool, but we all knew that before today.
Dosanjh added to his own post the following:
PS: Perhaps I should have anticipated the totally non-serious assertion that not all white men are silent. The silencing of most good white men has provided an opportunity for the Trumps of the world to rise. That is what happens when we suffocate or silence rational debate.
To which I reply, this debate about multiculturalism has never been rational, it has always been about identity, which is not a subject of rational discourse. The Donald is merely giving back in kind what has been dished out for a couple of generations. Get used to it people, the counter-revolution is just beginning.
