Things I believe and do not believe

To be accurate, “belief” is distinguished from knowledge. What I know for sure does not  need to be believed, because in that case belief is superfluous. I see belief and knowledge to be incompatible states of mind. When the pen is dropped from the hand in normal gravity, I know it falls towards the centre of the earth. I might believe it as well but that belief is superfluous.

I believe:

  • There is spiritual wickedness in high places.
  • Recent global warming is real and not significant in the long record of climate change on earth, though we should keep an eye on it.
  • There exists an immaterial force for goodness that is called God and by many other names. It is benign and intelligent, and occasionally directs those open to his insights and revelations to better outcomes.
  • We have received revelations.
  • I do not have an accurate, comprehensive, and correct picture of all that is going on. No one else does either.
  • Tolerance is required because of the preceding point.
  • Measures to control COVID were a foretaste of future totalitarian social controls that will be needed for a meatless future where we shiver in the cold, cold designed by globalists to immiserate us. See first bullet.
  • Gain of function research associated with COVID was paid for by American sources.

I do not believe:

  • That the governments and ruling classes of this world give a damn for the fate of the average person.
  • I do not believe in the benign intentions of those forces associated with the World Economic Forum, the Davos crowd, or the global warming climate emergency.
  • That the government of Canada is in good hands. (The first three bullets here are the same thing said in different ways).
  • That all people are equal in many significant senses of the word equal. Inevitably this includes peoples as well as people.
  • That though evolution is true, that natural selection or sexual selection as Darwin has explained them are sufficient explanations. Good try though!
  • That materialism is a sufficient explanation. The world is far more and greater than matter and its motions.
  • COVID was not a natural event but was an engineered plague that was either deliberately or accidentally released from the Wuhan Institute for Virology.

Most of what I blog is a commentary on the above. And with that, I will call it a day.

Peace.

Nitrogen oxide has become a greenhouse gas – policy to follow

Canada is heading in the direction of Holland. The latest turn is to blame nitrogen for climate change. Forced reductions of nitrogen outputs caused the Dutch farmers’ revolt. Now the Canadian Agriculture minister, Marie-Claude Bibeau has announced plans to reduce fertilizer usage.

The Toronto Sun says

“The federal government is looking to impose a requirement to reduce nitrous oxide emissions from fertilizers saying it is a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change. While the Trudeau government says they want a 30% reduction in emissions, not fertilizer, farm producer groups say that at this point, reducing nitrous oxide emissions can’t be done without reducing fertilizer use….

The Trudeau government is demanding an absolute reduction in emissions, which farmers say will result in less food being produced at a time when the world can ill afford it…

Farm groups, like the Western Canadian Wheat Growers, have said the federal plan will reduce crop output, reduce income for farm families and increase food prices in Canadian grocery stores.

While [agriculture] ministers Thompson, Horner and Marit all ran successful farming and ranching operations before entering politics, Bibeau was an international development bureaucrat and operated a tourism-related small business.”

The net direction of global warming policy is deliberate impoverishment. It intends to impoverish us through controls of fertilizer, heating fuel, electricity and every other way they can. Prevent protest by limiting travel (Covid passports) and by freezing bank accounts (truckers’ convoy). Freezing. cold, miserable, and artificially poor. Then demoralize the industrious by blaming it all on white people’s racism. Increase the number of state dependents while reducing the yeoman class of society. Lower birth rates through despair rather  than through prosperity. It seems to be working.

The exterminationist impulse behind global warming hysteria is something I have observed for along time. The net tendency of the greens  is becoming more and more apparent to ordinary people through actions taken to implement “climate” policy.

Two man made catastrophes are in lay here: global warming hysteria and COVID. Each is being used as a pretext for imprisoning and impoverishing the productive parts of the world.

Dear Believer

A letter to an authoritarian climate alarmist might go like this:

Dear Cardinal Ethereos of the Church of Gaia:

You asked me a while back how I dared to dissent in the face of the overwhelming evidence that man-caused global warming was real, dangerous, and urgently in need of action. There was considerable asperity in your tone. You thought I had no right to differ from the consensus.

The answer I ought to have given at the time is simple, though the issue is complex and multifaceted. I am a Protestant and a heretic by nature, and I do not trust received wisdom. I come from a tradition of people who defied the Church of another time, and went to war to defend that view, or sailed across the ocean to escape obligatory religious conformity.

In order to answer your question better – and to your mind more seriously – one has to divide the anthropogenic global warming issue into two parts, scientific and political. The scientific part is by no means settled, despite an enormous propaganda exercise that would have most North Americans and Europeans believe that it is.

I think Patrick Moore sums up the non-alarmist view best and most succinctly.

Plants want 1000 to 2000 parts per million to grow best, and the earth now has only 600 parts per million, even after recent increases. CO2 is the staff of life.

The science is not settled, but you would never know this because of the intense propaganda on the political front. Here I side with James Delingpole, who said that the CO2 thing is one branch of the culture wars.

I leave that aside for a moment. Why are 97% of scientists convinced of anthropogenic global warming? In truth this is one of the triumphs of leftist propaganda. They are not, and the figure was as concocted as the data that gave rise to the cholesterol scare of the 1960s. Selective sampling, ignoring countries that did not conform to the preconceived idea: you get the idea. If you have the time and patience, you can read through this article from Wattsupwiththat. But you won’t, will you?

Because none of us has the time. We all float in an ocean of manufactured opinion. My opinion is from a boutique, a single person enterprise. I make my own. Your opinion was manufactured for you, and people like the convenience of mass-produced opinion, even if it leads to authoritarian compulsion. And in your case, Cardinal Ethereos, especially if it leads to authoritarian compulsion.
